This quote ( Lord Kelvin) interested me:
"Do not imagine that mathematics is hard and crabbed, and repulsive to common sense. It is merely the etherialization of common sense.”
The way math is taught in most schools in India gives the impression that mathematics is devoid of common sense. It is my opinion that once this way of teaching is replaced by "a common sense" method of teaching, research minds will benefit to a large extent.

I agree da vattu that math to many is repulsive because of the abstract nature in which it is taught but if I were to teach math I would try to relate images to equations to make math pictographic. I think if we can ourselves relate pictures to symbols and pass it on we will succed in helping people understand math better. I think I have a long way to go in understanding the basics of math before I can help someone else :) but I think the idea is worth a thought.
yes arun. The lack of good teachers in physics or mathematics is what is causing problems in India. as we agreed, atleast at one point of time, we should return and teach!
